Donald Johnston Kehoe Jr., 67
July 10, 1951 - Jan. 16, 2019
Donald Johnston Kehoe Jr., 67, passed peacefully on January 16, 2019, surrounded by the love of his
family after a year-long battle with cancer.
Don spent his early childhood in New Dorp, later growing up in Great Kills, and moving to Richmond town in 1984.
For the past year Don was welcomed into his sister's home in New Jersey.
Don worked as a display advertising salesman at the Staten Island Advance for over 40 years.
Don attended P.S. 8 in Great Kills, Egbert Junior High in Midland Beach, New Dorp High School, and Wagner College.
Don's true passion was photography. His photographs garnered much praise throughout the years by family and friends. One photo of his niece, Heidi, captured first prize in the Richmond County Fair's "Most Beautiful Child" category. His four nephews, two nieces, and five great nieces and nephews were blessed with their Uncle Don's eagerness to capture their perfect smiles at each and every special event or just on an average day - remembering "Say Cheese" and "just one more picture."
Don volunteered his time and talents every year at the Tunnel to Towers Run in New York City and at many events at
the St. George Theatre, having been honored for his work.
Don's photo of Tony Bennett, at a St. George Gala, was framed and is on display near the entrance to the theatre.
In the 1960s, Don was the lead singer in the popular Staten Island band called the "Sounds Uncertain." The band reunited with the original members in 2007, having played once again at a variety of Island venues.
An avid N.Y. Yankees fan, having enjoyed playing baseball throughout his youth, Don also took pride in the upkeep of his yard and cars. He truly treasured spending time with his family and friends up to the very end.
One of his greatest joys was being an Uncle to Herbie, Chris, Heidi, Gary Jr., Tim, and Maggie and
Great Uncle to Elin, Ingrid, Natalie, Carter, and Bennett.
Don will always be remembered as a very generous and caring person by all of his family, friends,
and anyone who was fortunate to have met him.
Donald was predeceased by his loving parents, Gloria and Donald Kehoe Sr. Donald leaves behind his loving and devoted sister, Dale Lohmann and her husband, Herbert Jr., and loving brother Gary Kehoe Sr. and his wife, Cathy; his loving nephews and nieces, Herbert Lohmann III and wife Tyra, Christopher Lohmann and wife Kristen, Gary Kehoe Jr., Heidi Lohmann-Berry and husband Joey, Timothy Lohmann, and Maggie Kehoe-McGill and husband Nick, along with his adoring great-nieces and nephews, Elin and Ingrid Lohmann, Natalie and Carter (who was born on Don's last birthday) Lohmann, and Bennett Berry.
